The Ryebridge team have been out and about in the Southampton area interviewing apprentices for the Marchwood Port project at CETC College.
The scheme is being orchestrated by Associated British Ports and Solent Gateway Limited, and is the first phase of a major development to create storage areas for imported goods such as electric vehicles and plant machinery.
This week saw Ryebridge’s Sean Scully (Director) and Kevin Wilson (Construction Manager) interview apprentices at Fareham College’s new Civil Engineering Training Centre (CETC) for positions on the project, with two places offered and hopefully the start of an excellent relationship going forwards.
The Groundworks Course is relatively unique at CETC and was created by a group of local civil engineering employees in response to a countrywide skills shortage believed to be hindering industry growth and expansion in the south of England.
To tackle the problem head-on, they created a unique apprenticeship training programme that would address these issues, support the construction industry across the region and create more jobs and opportunities for skilled groundworkers.
Ryebridge MD Sean Scully said: “Fareham has outstanding facilities and is one of the few colleges in the UK to offer a groundworks programme. The new apprentices will be working for us under the expert guidance of construction manager Kevin Wilson and the rest of the team – what an opportunity for them!”
